Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 6, 2013, 4:26 PM

My awesome new journal skin thanks to DA, Blackberry and the creator, of course, of this great animated journal skin!

I am working hard at practicing my overall sketching while tweaking my own style. In the past, I would do fan art and very little original art or even fully completed character. So I am working on that and the background and/or landscape (environments) for which their character will originate; their story.

In between all that when I taking a break from all those projects, I like to paint watercolor artwork. It comes more naturally for me and I enjoy it a great deal. I also plan on revisiting charcoal and other mediums too. So stay tuned, visit my page often and please remember to leave a comment.

Cheers!

Hello Everyone! The fall semester is wrapping up so if you have not  been to my (gallery) :gallery: later, you have seen my most recent uploads which are all watercolor pieces. They are either watercolor pieces or a photograph with the watercolor included (for one reason or another i.e. the piece and its reference; an actual photograph or still life).

It has been a wonderful journey for me. I learned a lot, made new a friend in a newly found mentor, Jill Poyerd, a professional and well established watercolor artist. You can see for yourself how amazing her work is by visiting her website. jpwatercolors.com/ I will continue to explore and learn long after the semester is over (unlike some of my other required course..."blah!" I will continue to learn more about watercolor next semester too.

My search continues for where a school to get my bachelor's degree as well. Now that a wonder school has fallen prey to the bad economy; Chester College in NH. Sadly, they will not able to keep their doors open for aspiring writings and artist. Oh, I finally mange to change my major to what it was suppose to be; Fine Arts.

So, if you are new my page, browse around. If you follow me, thanks to you all and keep watching...if you loved what you have seen so far you will be pleasantly surprised  with upcoming additions as my love of the art continues to grow resulting in more uploaded pieces.

I am really excited for future.

Take car everyone and Thanks for stopping by. :blowkiss:

Hey everyone!

A new year, new semester and new class. I am taking Drawing II this semester in hopes of homing those sketching skill and do what I love to do most; draw! I have never really been formally taught, there up side and down side to it and it is different for everyone. For me, it gave me a handicap for not knowing how to effectively apply shadows and values to a piece to make it more two dimensional but I am getting better and now I get to practiced even more. I am excited and eager to obtain what taking this course will offer me. I will be uploading some of assignments; some in the features folder and others in the scrapbook (depending on their outcome) so stay tuned and check back often, okay.

See ya' around the :gallery:

As promised, here is the info on most, but not all, of my little chibi character pieces. I subscribe to a wonder author and illustrator named, Mark Crilley. He has this one video "20 Ways to Draw Chibi Emotions". I followed along and drew quiet a few of them but all 20 emotions (I felt were repetivive in their expressions) but I still loved watching the video and doing the work.

His work is very inspiring and if you've ever gone through all my work, you find there are other piece base on his work and/or are fan-related type pieces. I am a big fan of his skills, style and work.

If you like to see his video. Here is the link:

I got a lot of my inspiration over the summer having YouTubers be my mentor as I practice to build my illustrator skills and develop my own unique style. It is a long process but one I am happy to undertake. :bounce:

I guess I am working a little backwards. Deviant Art was first referred to me from fellow classmate when attending college for photography classes. I had intention but was only told once early in the day and could never remember it. A few years later I found myself back in college and once again advised to become a member of Deviant Art. This time I wrote it down and if I forgot, I was still in contact with the person that told me. So  here I am. I will finally start upload a whole new category of work; "YEARS" worth of it…but trust me. :wow: Its a good thing long over due and you all will love it. In fact, you will all love it so much you'll wonder why I waited so long too. :happybounce:

 Hello Everyone,

The school semester is in full swing, in fact, there will be mid-term for some and other have already had it (I had my test last week). I feel good about it. I am taking a break from homework to work on an image I initially sketch out this summer and want to work on completing very soon. It is an event poster I did for my Illustration class last year that I knew then (sick a lot) that I would need to work on and re-do. I just did the basic/work last year to get a grade for doing the work so I could maintain my good grade point average. Now, I want to redo for personal reasons (also because I know next semester I will need to have it fix my portfolio class so I am working on both a digital version and traditional version. It will be an interesting project. Stay tuned.

I have and will be adding more of my summer collection of work to my gallery soon. :gallery:

Phew! I have finally gotten some of my work scanned and will upload them to my "sketch" folder since they are basically just that, sketches that I done but waited to get into my computer to ink and paint them all. So, check em' out, leave a comment and/or some constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated folks.

I have been practicing  (drawing a lot) lately. I really want  to get grow as an artist. The transition is so apparent as I submit work and see build up my collection of pieces. What I am most proud about is how I now becoming someone who working on their own conceptual pieces; creating my own unique characters and style. This was very hard for me at one time. I could do a really job at drawing individual bits and piece here and there but would struggle to pull together all the components to create my own character. I could follow a how-to video and do amazing job that way to the point of sometimes doing better than the instructor but when it came to creating my own character...not so much. I struggle with unity and balance of the character; a head would be too big or the face on the head would be out of proportion, the body proportions would be off and that kind of thing but lately, I am being to hit the nail on the head. I have a mass a very large collection in past few month that I am dying to get into Photoshop and Illustrator to digitally paint.

My next project will be build my ability to do illustrations using my Wacom tablet and AutoDesk pro software but that's another story and will come much later. Right now I am going to bask in the glory of a very long sought after accomplishment that is a milestone for me. :happybounce:

I have submitted quiet a few of my illustration but I think starting tomorrow. I will begin to submit some of my photographs. I never submitted any of my photography work and I believe I should however, it is getting rather late on the East coast of the U.S and I also promise to make another batch of home-popped popcorn so I should hop-to. Look for some awesome work tomorrow but if you are in a hurry and want to see some now. You can always see my videos on YouTube: J2cool2 is my name channel is "Estello's Best". I have slideshow of my work and actual videos as well. I also have a dedicated website to my professional photographic work as well. You can view it all at www.at-e.smugmug.com

Hey!

I am celebrating da cool birthday a tad bit early with the downloadable journal skin. Rock on, da! "Happy 11th Birthday DeviantArt!"

Let's all do the boogie-woogie to celebrate! :boogie:

I am trying to learn how to use my Wacom Intous tablet. I have been trying to practice at least once a day or within a week to improve my skill set and broaden my abilities or rather expand them so I can do more than traditional illustration; primarily to build up my illustration skill. I manage digital color and ink my work if its scanned into the computer but I want to be able to actually get to the point I can do a piece from beginning to end using my Wacom. I plan on buying myself a Cintiq for Christmas this year but in the meantime which would a lot easier to use by illustrating direct on the screen as oppose to the awkwardness of drawing without looking sort-of-speak.

I have not forgotten about my other unfinished projects. I just recently finished my college semester and started a drawing challenge to help me brush up on my rusty skills before diving back in the lot of projects more dear to my heart I don't want to rush through or do poorly so recently after finishing the term; I tend to need time to recoup mentally and physically. It is also that time of year I am prone to illness and suffer due to allergies and flux in temperature. But have no fear. I will be working on those favorite and other items that I have yet to finish and/or tweak some more as my skills evolve.

I was concerned once the school break was over and I had to return to my college classes, it would hinder my time from drawing. It has begun. However, I will not let it stop from finishing what I have started or creating something new. I am still working on Eggman but I have gotten more of him done and will soon move onto other projects as well to see them through. School may have slowed my journey but it will not stop it.

I kinda went to town today just working, drawing and editing my butt off for hours on end. My brain was kinda boggled with some not-so-happy thoughts. Working on my art helps calm the storm within and ease the emotional pain.
